Record Entry for Tenby 10K 2008...and an Olympian winner!
July 2008

The fabulous weather attracted a record number of entries for the Tenby 10K this year, with over 270 runners registering for the race.

The event was kindly sponsored by Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire who also generously provided an additional prize of weekend breaks for the first male and femal finishers.

The race was won in 32.36 by Welsh and UK international Justin Chaston who ran the 3000 metre steeplechase in the Athens, Sydney and Atlanta Olympics. Justin first represented Wales in the World Cross Country Championships in 1987, and in an illustrious career reached the finals of both the European Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Now based in Colorado, Justin was on a visit to Pembrokeshire with his family. Stacey Chatson was first lady overall in 38.44. And to cap a perfect morning for the family, Matt Chatson finished second in 34.47, and was presented with the first male veteran prize.

Congratulations to all the runners for their excellent performances in the heat, and to the TROTs who won both the male and female team events.

Special thanks go to Dywfor and Eve Morgan, Ann Rowell, all the marshalls, the Mayor of Tenby, Rowland and Pat Sherwood of Online Race Results for swiftly processing a record number of entries on the day, Tenby Police, race sponsor Matthew Evans of Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire, and Tenby Leisure Centre for their outstanding support.

TROTs win Gold in Gwent League
March 2008

Four TROTs were among the individual medal winners for the season after the final Gwent League Cross Country at Blaise Castle.

In the TROT's best X-Country season ever, Ian Williams won the coveted Senior men's title, and Cyril Walters took gold in the M60 category. Ann Rowell was leading F50 for the season, while Pauline Thomas won F65 silver.

TROT Ladies finished third in Division One for the season with some outstanding top ten performances from Nicky Sykes (2nd in Swansea, 3rd in Bristol), Ann Thomas (4th in Bridgend), Rhiannon Ace (2nd in Brecon), and Mel Watson (6th in Brecon).

Injuries depleted the men's team for the final race of the season, but the presence of Welsh International, Ian Williams, and the consistent support of seasoned campaigners Malcolm Adams and Cyril Walters, ensured that TROTs men finished 4th in Division 2.

A huge thank you for yet another year to Cross Country captain, Ian Morris, for his driving, support and enthusiasm throughout the season. Thanks also to Roger Coombs for acting as deputy for the day in Brecon, and to all the other TROTs who ran during the season.
