Cross Country Champions! TROTs ladies sweep the board in Gwent League
March 2009

TROTs Ladies clinched top spot in the Gwent Cross Country League at the United Counties Showground in Carmarthen on Saturday 14th March with another tremendous team performance.

Competing against leading Athletics Clubs from across South Wales and the South West of England, TROTs won the Open, V35 and V45 ladies team events as well as individual golds in each of those categories.

Rising star, Caryl Jones finished 2nd on the day and took the overall ladies open title for the season. Mel Watson was second lady overall for the season and won the F35 category. Caroline Jones won the F45 category for the season. Lindy Eynon was 2nd F45.

There were more great performances on the day from Kirsty Murray, Claire Cleathero, Mary Bowen-Rees and Ann Rowell.

Special mentions must also go to Nicky Sykes who won 4 of the 5 races during the season, but was not eligible for the team, and to Pauline Thomas who narrowly missed out on F55 honours after missing the last race in Carmarthen.

The TROTs men team consolidated their place in Division Two, finishing 5th on the day with determined performances from Roger Coombs, Cyril Walters, Ian Morris, Martin Davies, Jim Cooper and Mike Hodges.

Thanks to all the TROTs ladies and men who have turned out for the team in the Gwent League over the last six months and contributed to an outstanding season. Well done Ian Williams, Kevin Griffiths, Les Watson, Chris Birch, Huw Jones, Ann Thomas, Helen Williams, Rhiannon Ace and Susan Thomas.

A big thank you as ever to Cross Country captain, Ian Morris and club Chairman Dwyfor Morgan for their driving, support and enthusiasm throughout the season, and to ladies captain Pauline Thomas, who has attended every single Gwent league for the past few years.
